Update 4:05pm: Apologies if you received this twice in your inbox. Substack appears to be having some technical issues, and we had to reupload the files. We have unpublished the original post; the links below to the video and PDF should be working.
My team has spent the past several weeks working on a big project: our annual U.S. Demography Review. I have produced this video presentation with analyst Christian Ford (who you’ll recognize from the podcast) for several years, but this is the first time it’s being released on Substack.
This presentation dives deep into U.S. vital statistics and population projections. Think of it as the summary report of the demographic topics we cover in other stories throughout the year. Among other things, we discuss:
Fertility: Has U.S. fertility rebounded? Or were the last two years a blip in the long-term trend?
Mortality: Why haven't deaths returned to pre-pandemic levels? Is Covid-19 still a major factor?
Immigration: How many immigrants are entering and leaving the country? How have these figures changed over time?
Mobility: What regions are Americans moving to, and where are they moving away from?
Population Projections: What is the long-term outlook for the U.S. population? Will it keep growing?
The U.S. Demography Review is part of our Black Books video series, which covers demographic indicators. These follow the same access guidelines as our other videos: Premium subscribers can view today’s presentation, which runs just under an hour, and download the accompanying PDF deck below. Comped subscribers will receive a separate e-mail with both items shortly.
Other paid subscribers, you will receive a link to the video only next week.
