An analysis of Census data finds that 1 in 4 renters spend at least half their income on rent, a share that has grown dramatically since 2007. In California, New Jersey, New York, and Florida, the share of renters paying more than half their income on rent is more than 30%—renewing calls for affordable housing reform.
