The gap in life expectancy between blacks and whites has narrowed to the smallest ever: 4.4 years for men and 3.1 years for women. But the reasons aren’t all  positive: Premature deaths among blacks from homicides and HIV have plunged, while drug overdose deaths among whites have skyrocketed.
