Graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang has been named the fifth National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. It’s perhaps the most significant symbolic gesture yet that Yang’s specialty—comics—has gone from the “junk food” parents feared in decades past to a respected art form under a new generation of educators and readers.
