A group of economists led by MIT’s Erik Brynjolfsson asks: How much is Facebook worth to the U.S. economy? The group’s thesis, which is that measured economic output understates the impact of “free goods of the Internet”—to the tune of 0.05% to 0.11% of GDP annually—runs into a host of conceptual problems.
