The University of Michigan’s index of consumer sentiment showed an unexpected 7.3 point drop in May, the biggest drop in two years. In the survey, workers expressed the highest level of concern with losing their jobs since 2009, a surprising indictment on the strength of this year’s economic “recovery.”
