The share of “socially engaged” 55- to 64-year-olds fell more than 5 percentage points from 1995 to 2012, the largest decline of any age group. Part of the explanation could be that Boomers are busier (with work and family) than earlier generations of elders; alternatively, this notoriously antisocial bunch could simply be more selective of friends.
