Since 2009, pet euthanasia rates at animal shelters in major U.S. cities have fallen more than 75%. As cultural attitudes toward pets have softened, rescue adoptions have increased and no-kill approaches to reducing the stray population (most notably, spaying and neutering) have gained ground.
