Record Slow Growth Rate May Cost California a Congressional Seat in 2020
According to California’s Department of Finance, the state’s population increased by 0.47% in 2018—the slowest growth rate in recorded history. The state, which added Congressional seats in the 1990 and 2000 Censuses thanks to a population boom, could lose one in 2020 for the first time ever.
