Sidewalk Labs to Build High-Speed Wi-Fi Hubs in Cities
A new Google startup, Sidewalk Labs, will build free high-speed Wi-Fi hubs in cities—starting with New York, where renovated payphones will double as Wi-Fi hotspots. These “connected cities” will be welcomed by consumers—but reviled by telecom giants that still rely on phone data plans as a main source of revenue.
