Film critic Zak Hepburn believes that superhero films have become darker thanks to Gen Xers. Today’s superhero movies are based on graphic novels from the ‘80s, and appeal to “kids who grew up with the silver age of comic books…[who] wanted something a little more heavier [sic] and were moving away from that Adam West Batman, that silly sort of Batman.”
