More than a third of airlines now ask passengers to tag their own bags, up from only 13% in 2009. Carriers say that offering self-service options for luggage handling streamlines the process and shortens lines at the airport, but disgruntled passengers grumble that it’s simply an excuse to get even less for their buck.
