As of 2013, withdrawals from 401(k) plans now exceed contributions. Analysts attribute the outflow to retiring Boomers, with some predicting it may last until 2030—putting pressure on money managers to get Millennials to make up the difference or convince Boomers to migrate their money to different products like IRAs.
